The personification of all the socioeconomic, cultural, and political trends that have led to the rise of the far-right across the Western world.

I'll wait and see... but he seems a lot more fiscally-conservative/deregulation/tax-cutting than I think many on the left celebrating his victory assume.

france needs a lot of deregulation and tax-swtiching right now, to be able to improve the social safety net and the job market on the long run.

I also wonder... and I don't hold this against Macron... but do a lot of people know that he married his high school teacher?

He met her at 15 while she was 39; their relationship became official when he was 17. Interestingly, that was in ~1995 and she did not divorce her ex-husband until 2006 - with whom she has 3 children. All of those children now live with her and Macron, I believe.

A truly French love story Tongue

Seems like an FF (voted this way; definitely an FF in terms of making the right enemies), and definitely much better than all the other options in France's election, but enough of a tabula rasa that I might withhold judgment for a bit.

Empty suit, but better than Le Pen. Here's hoping the Socialists can bounce back and defeat both Macron and Le Pen in the next election.

A case can be made for FF for beating the sh**t out of Le Pen, but overall hp. Better than the alternative. Hopefully he governs further to the left (unlikely, I know).

Eh. Regulation isn't automatically a good thing. Cutting taxes isn't automatically a bad thing. France is a country with a very different situation from the US in many ways. The most typical corporate tax rate around the developed world is around 25%. France is at about 33%. France has incredibly strict employment regulations. German austerity is doing horrible things as well. Macron fighting against those is probably one of the more important things that can be done. Lean FF for now, with the information I have.

Congratulations to the new leader of the free world! Mon roi est vivant!

HAHAHA france being the leader of the free world lmao . France is not even as important to the world as Germany and the UK let alone the United States who still is the leader .

Roll Eyes

Chill.
