El-Sayed would get clobbered in the general.

Fieger probably would too.

If Whitmer can rally the party establishment behind her she should be a slight favorite over Schuette or Calley (sp?), as establishment support matters quite a bit in turning out the dem base in Washtenaw and Oakland. Detroit turnout has to be looked towards as well, since Detroit has a history of not showing up for midterm elections.

I saw a lot of Whitmer signs and support around Ann Arbor before I moved last month, so the base is definitely there and ready to actively rally behind her. I haven't really heard anything about her yet policy wise though.

AG Bill Schuette is officially in on the GOP side:

I'm sure Schuette is popular with the GOP base and will have little trouble winning the GOP nomination, but among Michigan liberals he is maybe the most hated figure in Michigan politics, probably moreso than Snyder, at least from what I've seen and heard living in the most liberal part of the state.

Ossoff sucked in $30 million, didn't run on anything, and lost by a bigger margin than he did the first time. Lost by a bigger margin than Hillary Clinton. And I didn't think it was possible to be a worse candidate than her.
He lost by 4 in a district where Democrats have consistently lost by 30. If Democrats weren't so eager for a win after blowing the Presidential Election he may have snuck in. He would have lost in 2018 regardless. The district is Republican. Tom Price would not have been selected to Trump's cabinet if this seat was viewed as a toss-up.

Whitmer up by 7 on Schuette, while El-Sayed is down by 4.

Dems lead state legislature generic ballot by 11 points!

Trump winning Michigan = biggest fluke of all time.

Didn't you just say yesterday he was in good shape there because he was "only" at -15 approval? You might want to get your schizophrenia under control.

MICHIGAN: It looks like ex-Detroit Health Dir Abdul El-Sayed (D) will be disqualified from Governor race due to eligibility grounds. State constitution requires he be a Michigan voter for the past 4 years, but he was registered to vote in NY as of 2015.

Hallelujah! That pretty much clears the field for Whitmer. Unfortunately the Bernie wing just might go into Jill Stein mode, claiming that the establishment did this to him and it’s just as racist as birtherism.

A real shame, El-Sayed seemed like an amazing guy and candidate. Hope he can bounce back from this in a future cycle.

I'm assuming this lead would be enough to break the gerrymander in both houses?

From what I’m reading, it would take a formal challenge from a Democratic candidate to get him off the primary ballot at this point. If he wins, then the Republicans would quickly jump to have him removed from the ballot.

Perhaps El-Sayed can run for Conyers' open seat this year?

That's a 50% BVAP seat. If he does that, I wish him good luck against the storm.

If the Conyers cousins split the majority of the black vote, he could have a chance.

Whitmer narrowly outraised Schuette in Q4, $747,284 to $735,000.

Schuette maintains a cash-on-hand lead of $2,412,404 to $1,867,230.

El-Sayed significantly trails his performance from previous quarters - raised $281,010 in Q4, $837,519 on hand.

Duggan is not-so-secretly trying to recruit a more viable challenger
