I agree with the consensus of 1994. President Clinton along with the Democratic Congress could have continued work on universal healthcare and other progressive policies. It would have basically been a continuation on his first two years, which were easily his best.
As much as I'd love to change last year's presidential result (and I still would if I could), the Democratic Party will almost certainly be far better off now than the other way around. If there's one thing that scared me about a third Democratic term, it was what would have happened to the party down-ballot.
