He is still fairly young and can he be like George HW Bush succeeding Reagan?

More like a Ford succeeding Nixon scenario.

I'm not in the belief that Pence will run, or even that he'd be a good candidate if he did run. He's far too religiously conservative to gain any real ground. I think Trump will run in 2020.

Boring and lifeless. I can't see him winning but clearly anything is possible.

He'll probably win in 2020 then get clobbered in 2024.

Absolutely. The only reason he didn't run in 2016 was the political dumpster fire that was the RFRA.

Not if Trump loses in 2020.

It's not uncommon.

Yeah, but he won't win. I think Tim Scott could get it by 2024.

I think he'll probably run in 2024, regardless of whether he's still VP by then. Whether he gets the nomination is another matter, and I wouldn't call him a favorite in the general election.

Pence will run, he'll be the frontrunner from day one, and he'll be the 2024 nominee.

I'm pretty sure he will under most circumstances. He clearly wants to be President, and doesn't have the health issues Cheney did, nor has he had major gaffes like Quayle.

Maybe he'll run as the sacrificial lamb like Mondale did in 1984.

He can be the GOP's Mondale.

I agree, he'll run but remains to be seen how well he'll do.

He can be the GOP's Mondale Carter.

Corrected.

At some point Pence will be the Republican nominee for president; either 2020, 2024, or both. He fits well with the Republican coalition. This assumes the Trump administration doesn't end in complete flames and Pence can escape unscathed relatively.
