A good idea IMO. Note that apparently former FBI Agent Adam Lee (?) is under consideration per Reuters

McConnell will back Garland.

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/former-chief-of-staff-mitch-mcconnell-thinks-merrick-garland-fantastic-for-fbi/article/2623063

It doesn't clarify if McConnell will recommend Garland to Trump, or if he will push to confirm him if he's nominated, but it sounds like McConnell will urge Trump to nominate Garland.

It is highly unlikely that Garland would take the job, but he'd likely get overwhelming bipartisan support if he agrees. The FBI should be nonpartisan, so he would be a great choice. Getting a conservative Chief Justice on the DC Circuit would be nice too.

Which is why this won't happen.

Yeah with Trump I've learned to expect 75% of what you want, and than not be surprised when you get 85% instead. Not bad, considering how lower the percentages would be under President Jeb! or Clinton.

Friends of Merrick Garland say he likes his job and isn't interested in the FBI.

Per DKE, Cornyn removes name from consideration.

So the two worst options - off the board

I may be naive on this issue, but if you are already at a position you like and that is adequate for you, why take such a stressful job like being fbi director, especially in these times where every word you say and every action you take is under a magnifying glass?

I wouldn't take it unless I was in severe financial worries and needed the funds.

I imagine that's Cornyn's thinking. As for Gowdy, I've long heard he wants out anyhow and would rather be a district court judge

Joe Lieberman is among the candidates Trump is considering for the job:

Lieberman is HP, but I suppose he's better than a long list of other people. Not that I'd imagine he'd take the job, of course.

Apparently his law firm has done work for Trump, and he introduced DeVos during her Senate hearing (which I did not know).

Worrisome...

Move over Lieberman, because Richard McFeely is rising:

"Former FBI official from Severna Park under consideration to replace James Comey as director"

McFeely stock on PredictIt has quickly risen as Lieberman's has crashed, and they are now tied for likeliest pick.

This is (if true) a positive development. If Lieberman gets the pick, than the McMasters-Powell neocon clique has effectively taken control of Trump's foreign/security policy apparatus. That would be a most unwelcome development.

Nevermind, McFeely has withdrawn from consideration. Alice Fisher also withdrew her name from consideration.

From what I've been reading, he has ruled everyone out and is starting over with the search.

They must have all refused the loyalty oath.
