It depends the type of politics. That said, I've been friends with very right-wing people, so I think it would work in most circumstances.

If the individual treated my child right and was respectful, I wouldn't care. It also depends how contrary the politics are. Some Alt-right and/or Libertarian cretin who says "triggered" every sentence would get a verbal lashing from me.
