Utah by far.  I'm no Mormon, but at least Mormons value education and in some ways seem a bit less prone to hypocrisy.

Compare Mike Lee with Dick Shelby. Any questions?

There is nothing redeemable about Alabama.

Devil's Advocate:  Alabama honestly went for Trump, and its lead politicians honestly try to advance the party like hacks, and the local politics of Birmingham aren't that bad. And in the past, when it didn't want any candidate, it stayed that way.  Also unionization has some presence.

Utah made a big "family values" fuss, launched McMullin...but in the end still went for Trump bigly. Also, you have Jason Chaffetz' and Orrin Hatch's and Mike Lee's all of them whom pretend to be reasonable like Ben Sasse, but ultimately still cave and tow the line. Also Provo sucks and it's Big Business bigly there.

Both have great politics, but Utah's a bit better on the margin.  I do obviously prefer the religious demography of Alabama as it has far more Evangelicals, of course.

No. I didn't mean that completely literally. Generally, Utah's Governors were better.

Utah (big Mike Lee fan), although I'd fit in fairly well in Alabama.

Utah, and there is really no comparison. For all of the faults of the Mormons, they take care of their people, Republicans and Democrats alike. The worst Utah politico would almost make the top of the list of Alabama Republicans (Though I would say Jim Zeigler is better than Jason Chaffetz). Alabama used to have at least some politicos who gave a RIP ABOUT ALABAMA (Big Jim Folsom and Albert Brewer are the most prominent examples), but now it's almost exclusively politicos who want to run the state into the ground even more than it already is.
