In terms of being a socially progressive, fiscally centre-left/centrist city based yuppie pretty boy I'd say California's next governor Gavin Newsom is the closest. He even described himself in one interview as being very socially progressive but fiscally common sense and doesn't think government should spend money it doesn't have. He married into a big republican family so he's "sensitive" so to speak.

This is definitely the right answer. Honestly I would not be very surprised if Newsom or some other governor elected in '18 decided to run at the very last minute (like in September/October). If he passes some form of single payer in his first six months he could run on that alone.

Hillary Clinton. And like Macron, she won more votes.

edit: Under no circumstances do I think she will or should ever run again. But that's the answer to the question.

He endorsed Single Payer, is running on tuition free community college, 15$ Min Wage & quite a few progressive economic policies. He is nowhere near centrist economically by national mood - The GOP will call him a far left socialist ! He used to donate to Jon Stewart's show !

But anyways I don't know who is as socially liberal as Macron & is a dead centrist on economics (centrist to center-right in some cases including Corporate tax & a few tax cuts !)

He refused to call himself progressive on economics and instead replied with this. Also for a guy supposedly running on a lot of Bernie Sander's platform, he wasn't too interested in Sanders campaign:

Source.

I wouldn't put too much faith in the idea that he doesn't have centrist bent on economics given both his statements and actions. I'd wait and see what he does as governor before coming to any definitive conclusion anyways.

America's "Angela Merkel" lost to Mr. Brexit.

Let's give America's "Emmanuel Macron" a try.

all of this is terrible and you should feel bad.

Never mind the fact that Merkel is in Germany's right of center party. Never mind the fact that the actual Mr. Brexit, Nigel Farage, ran as far away from actual government as possible as soon as Brexit happened. ect. ect. ect.

If Delaware were a bigger state and its governors more well known, nobody would even ask this question.

Former Delaware Governor Jack Markell reads like a carbon copy of Emmanuel Macron.

From Wiki:
Markell was born and raised in Newark, Delaware.  He graduated from Brown University earning his Bachelor of Arts in economics and development studies, and went on to the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, earning his Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Markell began his business career in 1982, working as a banker at First Chicago Corporation. He then became a consultant at McKinsey & Company in 1986. Markell joined Fleet Call - later known as Nextel Communications (a name that Markell coined)[6] - where he served as the Senior Vice President for Corporate Development from 1989 to 1995. Becoming the company's 13th employee, Markell joined Nextel when the company was in a nascent stage; helping lead Nextel to nationwide success during the wireless telecommunications revolution of the 1990s.[7] After leaving Nextel, Markell worked as a senior manager at Comcast Corporation from 1996 to 1998.

Markell was first elected State Treasurer of Delaware in 1998.

Both have advanced degrees with an economics background who went to work as bankers and then got involved in government finance/economic development.

The policies he enacted as Governor or Delaware also suggest he's a centrist on economics and socially liberal.

He's charismatic in a Patrick Bateman kind of way...if that counts.

I don't like a Rothschild banker becoming President of the United States. Or someone who said my country doesn't have a culture. Just a thought...

What's your problem with a Rothschild banker?
I don't trust bankers, especially ones who are associated with a grim family like the Rothschilds.
You mean you don't trust Jews?

Gavin Newsom, a younger Ron Wyden, or perhaps Seth Moulton.

Damn you for tempting my pattering neoliberal heart

Wouldn't the equivalent be if some slimy loose cannon in Trump's cabinet defected and ran for election against his or her wounded boss?

So yeah, more likely to be some ambitious and disloyal member of Trump's crew.

Not when he originally ran though, when his image (if not his substance) was firmly centre-left.

Farage would be more than happy to be in government; he simply saw the writing on the wall following the referendum. UKIP's decline was inevitable and the Tory Party wasn't going to have him.

Castro, Murphy, and maybe Harris are the only one's on the list with a realistic shot at being President in 2020.  And the outside shot- due to an impressive ability to talk about issues in a Bill Clinton sort of way (Sen Brian Schatz).

The correct answer to this is Murphy -- Phil Murphy.
