Jason Kander/Jeff Merkley. Is this a good ticket?

... I'd vote for it. The only problem, I find with it, Merkley might still painted as "Coastal Elite." Gary Peters maybe? If only his Senate seat wasn't so vital, Tester?

Perhaps, but I had never heard of Merkley's birthplace (Myrtle Creek). Oregon outside of Portland-Salem-Eugene is quite "red" (Atlas blue), Merkley won. That says something.

As for the top of the ticket, I think having someone like Kander from a "red" (Atlas blue) state is a good idea.

Would be an amazingly electable ticket. Only problem is that two Western (ish) white males on a ticket isn't the best for diversity purposes.

What's wrong with "white males" exactly?

I would argue that Kander/Klobuchar would be the ideal ticket, but Kander/Merkley is certainly electable.

Nothing. I just think diversity is good on a Presidential ticket.

No. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Kander. If you're going to run off being a politician, it helps to have something higher than state Secretary of State.

This. I like Kander, and he's young enough that he still has a bright future ahead of him, but it isn't happening in 2020. You should hold nationwide office for at least one term before you run for the presidency. Not to mention that with Trump, it would probably be more effective to contrast his inexperience with an elder statesman type politician. Merkley could definitely work for that, but Kander isn't the guy we need for 2020.

Personally I'd be a fan of it, but I think there are plenty better VP candidates out there besides Merkley...
