Bill Clinton, pictured twenty years after signing the Telecommunications Act:

Let's dispel with this fiction that Clinton didn't know what he was doing. He knew exactly what he was doing.

What is with far leftist want to do Clinton bashing.  Even resorting to false accusations to bash them, really petty.

The least-sophisticated viewers rely most heavily upon the local TV broadcasts of news for what passes for information. (Really, such news broadcasts are of little value as news and best serve such purposes as weather forecasts, sports scores and highlights, local stories, commodity prices and financial reports. The car chase after a bank robbery in South Bend is of little interest in Evansville, let alone in Denver.   This is exactly where propaganda is most effective -- upon the least-sophisticated people, people either barely literate or too intellectually lazy to think about what they hear. Such are the people most likely to fall for a personality cult in any political order, whether of a left-wing demagogue like the late Hugo Chavez or a right-wing demagogue like Donald Trump.

I am in the market of one SincLIAR station, and I can recognize propaganda when I see it, as on the must-run material by SincLIAR Broadcasting. But many can't. Propaganda serving one side of a political dispute is a bane of democracy.

Of course I can only wonder how some news departments will deal with this. One way will be to announce the 'must-runs' as 'the opinion of ownership that may not reflect  the opinions of staff of this station'.  Or the 'must-run' material has some scrawling message that serves as a possible disclaimer.

Do you interact with people above 40? Yes, they do, and they vote.

This. My dad constantly told me how hard the media was pushing to get Trump elected. Also, quite a few baby boomers do, even those who aren't quite seniors yet.

Clinton made quite a few mistakes.

We should have reelected Bush Sr. IMO. He was a far better president.

These are yet more solid reasons that Sinclair buying out the Tribune stations will wreck the acquired news stations' legacies.

Why do centrists feel the need to defend the honor of some of the most powerful people in the world against critical internet comments?. Very, very pathetic.

This is further going to polarize and Balkanize media consumption in this country, as we're already seeing

Old people of course watch TV news, but the notion that old people can have their political opinions changed by TV - or anything, really - is the truly outdated concept here.

Don't believe that for a minute. Presenting propaganda as "news" affects far more voters, who are otherwise reachable and reasonable, than you'd imagine.

That's surprising as you're a smart engaged guy and they are big nationwide players in local media ownership.

I'm actually surprised I didn't know they owned many local stations including my favorite The CW, I guess you learn something new everyday.

Nothing Clinton did would've been improved by re-electing H.W. Bush.

Roll Eyes

The media was definitely in the tank for Hillary last year. That's called returning a favor.

When I read the title I thought that they literally had news segments tilted at a 45 degree angle.
