I got mine some flowers and I called her.  Successfully completed the call without talking politics once!  Victory.

Made her some food.

Well, mama has been in the ground for a quarter of a century, so I live vicariously on Mother's Day through my son.  He made her a cake, gluten free box mix, but he broke the eggs, poured the oil, cut six fresh strawberries into tiny bits with a knife, poured them into a mold, turned on the oven, and cooked it all, with a little of my direction.  Then he put a marischino cherry on each one.  While he was doing that, under my barking direction, I prepared lunch for the three of us.  No blood was drawn from my fingers although I lost a bit of a fingernail.  (Don't worry, I accounted for it.)

I consider it a success.

I only have one mom, and she got a bouquet, a card, a Starbucks drink, and a painting.

Nothing.  She's the only one left in parent/in-laws circle, but alas, nothing.

She's too much of a sweetheart not to put my birthday first when it fell on mother's day. I tried to promise her we would go out someplace, but she insisted that we already did this and celebrated mother's day early.

My mom turns 80 tomorrow so her three sons all went to spend Mothers Day weekend with her. Besides a number of group activities I got her a framed copy of her birth certificate. Some years ago when she applied to renew her passport she found that the digitized version of her birth certificate on file at Cook county had totally mangled her mother's maiden name. I found someone in the county clerk's office who was willing to look up the original handwritten form, make the corrections and send me an official certificate. She does a lot of genealogy research on the family and I knew having the right official records would matter to her.

Since my brother had already taken her out to eat, I grabbed flowers, a card, and a bunch of her favorite candies and spent the evening after work at her house and watched movies.
