Which President has had the worst first year in office, besides Trump? Pretty sure his is the worst. Don't count the two Presidents who served less than one year, William Harrison (31 days) and James Garfield (199 days).

It might have not lasted a year, but bill clinton had a rough first few months, but not like this!

Probably Harrison, who died 30 days into office and spend most of that time seriously ill.

- 9/11 occurring was a pretty bad way to finish off 2001 for George W. Bush.
- The Civil War starting in 1861 made it an awkward year for Abraham Lincoln.
- William Harrison's is pretty bad, RIP, sweet prince.
- James Garfield's as well.

Not Trump, though. self-imposed wounds and nonsense should not count.

While the loss of life on 9/11 was devastating, the event itself and the aftermath rescued Bush's presidency and gave him several years of good poll ratings and power over Congress. Before that, he was fumbling.

I do think Lincoln has to win this particular contest.

He did not want the war.  I think he had a plan to abolish slavery  -- the British way, which went along peacefully.

Howard Taft is widely regarded to have had a bad first year in office.  Grover Cleveland had terrible timing in his second stint, as did Martin Van Buren in his first year.

Hadn't Bush secured his tax cuts and NCLB by 9/10/01? Doesn't seem like fumbling IMO
