What would the reaction from the congressional GOP if Trump orders Sessions and Rosenstein  to fire Mueller and sessions complies?

Congressional pubs are scared of backlash from Trump's base, they'll never oppose him unless he's at Bush 2008 approvals.

The uproar like the last ten days happen again and escalate. It's been a very useful and good ten days to instruct Trump's goons on the pain of trying to obstruct justice.

Comey 1, Trump 0.

"We're investigating whether Mueller had anything to do with the leaks to the media about Trump sharing info with the Russians"

It would cause the President to lose almost any credibility that he still has. The President's opponents would come to recognized that everything is fixed.

This was like Nixon firing Archibald Cox. Or a cinematic analogue, the fictional Lars Thorwald  killing a small dog who has been snooping around a bit too much. Curiosity killed the cat? That 'cat' barked too much.

Would it hurt his standing among the Congressional GOP?

But Trump can order somebody in DoJ to fire him. That was the Saturday Night Massacre in Watergate times. Firing people in the DoJ line of command until Nixon got someone to say yes.

Since this is just a "what-if" thread, ..., what if Trump/Bannon decide to go full authoritarian and just arrange for Mueller's demise: polonium ampule, car bomb, angina pectoris medicinalis, "depressive episode," etc.

In a more serious note, the physical danger the leakers and the media in general face from the Trump White House is immense. They should never underestimate it.
