http://www.chch.com/non-alcoholic-beer-craft-beer-taste/

To a lot of beer drinkers — non-alcoholic beer equals no taste and no fun. But a team at Niagara College developed a lager that has no alcohol, but with a craft beer taste. And there are no hangovers or chances of driving drunk.

What I am proposing is a new age of prohibition of alcoholic beer.

Those who like beer can now drink a non-alcoholic beer with real craft-beer taste.

With alcoholic beer banned from consumption, there will be millions of fewer drunk drivers on our roads and highways and countless lives will therefore be saved.

There will be millions less alcoholics in society, thus saving heartbreak and keeping families together.  There will be millions of fewer people (usually men) in society who are guilty of spousal abuse because of their alcohol drinking.

Millions upon millions of dollars will be saved annually in health care costs by having to treat millions less cases of alcoholics.

Millions upon millions of dollars will be saved by industry by not having employees miss countless hours of work because they have a drinking problem.

So I say, let's put a ban on alcoholic beer and replace it completely with non-alcoholic beer that tastes just like alcoholic beer.

Whose with me?

Taste is just an excuse to drink beer. The point is the alcohol.

It's like what I say about wine - I like wine, I know a decent amount about it, but I'm first and foremost a wine drinker. That's why I love zinfandel - bold taste, efficient alcohol content.

I would support a bit more alcohol restrictions on theory, but in practice it just won't work, and literal prohibition is just f--king stupid.

To me, this is a serious matter.

So for those of you who are guilty, you can take your obscene and disgusting comments elsewhere.

There have been far too many deaths brought about by people who have drank too much alcohol,
i.e. drunk drivers.

There have been far too many families broken up because some member of the family, usually the father, becomes abusive after drinking alcohol, beating other members of the family.

There have been far too many people who have become alcoholics because of over drinking of alcohol, which in turn has brought pain and suffering to family members and loved ones, with all the other inherent problems that come with alcoholism.

Far too many people, in particular young people, have been rushed to hospital with alcohol poisoning, in some cases, too late to save their lives.

There are many issues directly related to the destructive forces of alcohol consumption.

This is a very serious issue and should be treated as such.

There have been deaths brought on by people who are too reckless of drivers, should we outlaw driving?

So is Winfield endorsing communism? No more personal responsibility, government should control what people can and can't do because a lot of bad stuff has happened!

I fully realize there are many things beyond our control, and that unfortunate and tragic events are going to occur, but less alcohol consumption will, I believe, result in saving lives.

"Craft beer" is such a self-evidently pretentious concept I have a hard time believing so many people take it seriously.

I spend perhaps more than I need to fill an entirely emotional void caused by the feeling of drinking cheap beer. I find even raising one's spending to the level of Blue Moon or Sam Adams often does the trick. Nevertheless, at the club, you can never beat that $2.50 Pabst Blue Ribbon can.

If I want to drink beer I want it to taste like something, not beer flavored water.

and obviously the only way to do that is via craft beer  Roll Eyes

Craft beer is almost always a Veblen good, but that's fine.  Good for the economy.  Craft beer drinkers are more than welcome to rationalize it.  That's how it works.

as for the OP...ha...we tried this once already.  It didn't work.

Not pissed, the rolleyes was for the previous posters assertion that non-craft beers taste like water.  Obviously there are hundreds of exceptions that don't taste like water.

Like I said, craft beers are good for the economy.  Certainly better for it than your "mainstream" beers.  And of course "keeping it local" is always better than not.  Just don't poopoo regular beer drinkers....actually I don't even care if you poopoo regular beer drinkers...just make sure the poopoo makes sense.
