It would be a real shame if Trump's successor gives him a pardon out of some misguided desire to protect the "integrity" of the institution.  (Of course, a pardon would achieve precisely the opposite of that...)

No. Nobody, not even the President, is above the law. If Donald Trump has committed a crime, he should be brought to justice for it.

IF impeachment or resignation becomes a plausible option, I'm all for granting Trump a pardon. One simple reason: Realistically, playing the "resign voluntarily, and we promise that you won't go to jail" card may be the only way to get him to resign.

I don't think a pardon can be written broadly enough to cover the diverse, prolific, and pungent crimes being revealed about Trump and his campaign.

Ford had issued a blanket pardon too:

Well, a Trump pardon would have to predate the inauguration to cover crimes during the campaign and transition.

I want him out of the USA.  I want him to be disgraced.

We are at fault as a nation for accepting a President who did such objectionable stuff as mocking the disabled or bragging about grabbing women by their crotches. We should have never tolerated the beating of hecklers or the use of religious bigotry. Enough people are culpable of bad judgment in electing him.

I am touched that you have such faith in lawyers Grumps. Who's "Kreskin?"  It sounds Russian. Everything seems so Russian these days.

Why are we talking about something that will not happen for several months or potentially years? The President is a long way from being disgraced.

Anyway if this happens he most likely has to be pardoned for the sake of his supporters.

My response is a simple "no." He shouldn't get off lightly, nor am I going to call for him to be locked up the way he whipped his followers into a frenzy. Justice should be done, whatever form that takes.

But as has been said, even if Trump is investigated and found guilty, it's a long way in the future.

Only as part of a deal that gets him out of office ASAP.

If he waits until impeachment is pending, then no.

I disagree. The disgrace of a President is enough. If we start jailing our presidents the precedent is set that they can never act ethically grey and legally questionable (and this is most pertinent during wartime).

Seeing a President in jail would possibly destroy the Right and set off an irreversible chain of events that would damage the nation's two party system. Had Nixon gone to jail Reagan might have never had the chance to persuade voters in the 80s to give him a chance to turn around the country.

Every one of our presidents since Reagan had committed crimes by the way. When we jail a president a future president is going to think twice before possibly taking an action that benefits the national interest.

Treason is an exception. If we found evidence Trump deliberately collaborated with Russia to interfere with the election then I would say jail is appropriate. Otherwise pardon him, move on, and punish the appropriate parties through the political process and jail lesser subordinates.

Trump has done enough damage to our institutions. Let's not let him derail the system further.

Well maybe there is a possibility .....
We can ask for the Italian government's permission to send the orange slug to the Island of Elba.
Some people have described him, as having a Napoleon "Little-Hands" Complex.
