Isn't Wallace basically the opposite of a libertarian?

On some issues, yes, but so are some of the Prohibition candidates that I would have voted for, because I think that those individuals were the best candidate during the election year.

You truly believe that Thurmond was the best candidate in 1948?

There are also other inconsistencies with how you voted... You voted very conservative in the 60s through 80s, but what you fail to have realized, DW, is that in the early days, the Prohibition Party was rather liberal (It's stance on liquor being it's conservative spot), but the other issues it advocated, I doubt you would have supported based on your votes, such as Full Sufferage, and a majority favored Free Silver, etc.

I had a hard time deciding on any candidates from the 1860's until the 1960's as mostly all of the candidates were progressive/leftist/communists. It's not much better now, though. Republicans aren't conservative & Democrats are socialists.

So of course you chose parties with totally opposite views of yours... Actually in the 1860s, the Democrats would've fit you well...

However, given your votes for total nutjobs like Schmitz and neo-nazis like Gerald Lyman Kenneth Smith, I take that most parties are not extreme enough for you. Perhaps instead of Goldwater in 64, you should've wrote in Lincoln Rockwell... If you don't know who he is, look him up.

Except for certain exceptions (like Lincoln or the first seven presidents), I would have probably abstained from voting for either the Democratic or Republican candidates in the 19th century. Frankly, I've never seen a huge difference between the two parties at the time.

1900: Debs (I)
1904: Roosevelt (R)
1908: Debs (I)
1912: Roosevelt (I)
1916: Wilson (D)
1920: Cox (D)
1924: La Follette (I)
1928: Thomas (I)
1932: Roosevelt (D)
1936: Roosevelt (D)
1940: Roosevelt (D)
1944: Roosevelt (D)
1948: Dewey (R)
1952: Stevenson (D)
1956: Stevenson (D)
1960: Kennedy (D)
1964: Johnson (D)
1968: Humphrey (D)
1972: McGovern (D)
1976: Carter (D)
1980: Carter (D)
1984: Mondale (D)
1988: Dukakis (D)
1992: Clinton (D)
1996: Clinton (D)
2000: Gore (D)
2004: Kerry (D)

Debs is a protest vote.
