Congressman Al Green (D-TX CD-9) recently called for President Trump to be impeached. Yesterday, at a town hall meeting in Houston, he played tapes of phone calls he got filled with death threats (including lynching) and multiple racial slurs (I don't want to violate the terms of service, so I won't repeat them here). The messages were left on both his district offices and his Washington offices.

Anyway, getting threats is unfortunate, but it's part of being a public figure, and it doesn't necessarily mean that you need to fear for your safety (since most threats are empty.) You have to be able to put up with a certain amount of nonsense.

For one thing, threatening to kill someone for calling impeachment is crazy and not ever acceptable. Second, there is no question that these threats had a racist connotation and he played the tapes as proof. This is indefensible and should be called out for how disgusting it is.

That statement doesn't prove that one isn't racist. My mom used to be friends with a white woman who had biracial children with two different African-American men and that woman eventually showed that she was a huge racist.
