I sponsored this in the Senate so it's my job to advocate, right

I guess you could advocate for it.

The costs do look somewhat concerning I must say. Where would everything come from?

Something that I wouldn't mind seeing is gun licences, in the same way that you have to obtain a licence to drive a car. This would ensure that people are taught how to use the weapon, how to store the weapon safely and to ensure that only people who have obtained the licence can legally purchase weapons.

More dangerous weapons could require additional scrutiny, in the same way that you can't drive a HGV with a standard car driving licence.

I'd be interested to hear people's opinions on this.

You can assume House sponsorship if you like. We need someone to officially hold that position, so as to give friendly feedback on amendemnts and so forth.

Yes, I will.

I think this bill proposes some basic steps to help combat gun violence that hold the balance between safety and rights, and should be fairly agreeable to all. It stands to help mental health treatments in Atlasia and to minimize violence, and who doesn't want that?

Representatives have 48 hours to object to LLR's assumption of sponsorship.

LLR is now the designated sponsor.

LLR, I realize this isn't a new bill, but could we still get an advocacy (possibly in the next 24 hours?) Wink

Members will have a subsequent 48 hours to respond or over comments/questions etc.

I'd have to agree with this. Before anyone paints my position as otherwise I will say that these are definitely noble goals, but is that much money really necessary? I'm curious why these numbers were chosen--it would be good if we aren't spending $50 million for something that can be done with $5 million, for example.

Also, what exactly does "launch a national dialogue about mental illness" mean, in the terms of this bill? I feel like vague terminology like this is hard to carry out--not even sure who would be carrying it out (the SoIA? You know, this might actually be a good way to sneak in some activity for that position Tongue).

This bill is designed to protect students, protect the mentally ill, reduce violence, and increase safety. If we want Atlasia to be safe, it's imperative to have basic safety measures. I believe this bill will make out citizens safer and improve the quality of our citizens' lives, and it's worth the price (both the monetary and the "loss of rights" costs.)

I have to agree with Leinad. I think this should be cleared up and more solidity should be established on the cost.

Echoing the cost questions, I'd be curious how exactly you chose those cost numbers. Did they come from anywhere in particular or were they chosen essentially randomly?

Winfield proposed the bill, not me. You'll have to ask him, sorry.

What constitutes an "effective background check"? or a "national dialogue on Mental Health".

This contains many "wish list formated items" that will need to be cleared up before I will consider supporting it. These problems are what led to the house version being rendered functionally impracticable until revisions could be made, and such were never forthcoming.

Yes, that would be a problem. If anyone with a greater understanding of this issue would like to amend this, go ahead. Otherwise, I'll work on something...

When can we expect this amendment to be forthcoming?

If this bill is not amended, I will have to vote against it and it has been sitting for a week now as it is.

It will probably be quicker for us to vote on it, tbh.
