NYC, but I could tolerate Chicago. I would not be willing to live in Texas or California under any circumstances.

I agree, unless you're forced to by consequences of life, why would any sane person choose to live in any of these four places?  Ok, I guess I can imagine reasons to want to live in NYC.  I can understand wanting to live in Texas, but Houston of all places?  If you want to be in entertainment you might want to move to the El Lay area, but nobody lives in Los Angeles proper unless they're too poor to live anywhere better.  There are certainly nice parts of Chicago, it's easy to avoid the "murdery" places....but it's currently moving on to phase 3 in the "How to be like Detroit in 6 Easy Steps" handbook isn't it?  Sure, they have some things going for it that Detroit didn't, but that just means the road to hell will be a little longer and slightly less bumpy early in the trip.

I went with Chicago anyway.

Voted NYC since I can imagine myself living in Brooklyn or Queens quite easily. New York isn't just Manhattan. That said I could also see myself living in Chicago.

I think I'd prefer Chicago for its music scene, culture, different districts.

Yep, definitely Chicago.

The epicenter of the entire Western world:  New York, easily.

This. It's also not necessarily explicit as Texas or California (though I'd certainly avoid, I guess Napa and a few other parts are nice), but these are the worst of the worst.

Offered the choice of NYC and Chicago, I chose Chicago and do not regret the decision.

nyc - too expensive
chi - afraid of getting shot
lax - couldn't compete

therefore, by elimination, Houston would be my choice.

Assuming I have the average income for the area - New York City, probably in Manhattan.

Otherwise, Houston.

Chicago or Houston. They both have their problems (particularly high crime), but they have more reasonable COL and it wouldn't cost too much to have a safe apartment. Just avoid going out after sunset Tongue

Houston, superior climate to my other two choices. Wouldn't live in LA again without an insane amount of money
