Thank you, Tender Branson, for seeing-- and calling attention to-- human goodness in the worst of situations.

24 hours later, and I'm enraged. Just like the death of two of my brother's friends from heroin had me thinking "what if it had been him," now I'm thinking of my two little cousins. They're 5 and 3. They're the cutest kids you'll ever meet. Now, apparently, my Uncle's two little girls are apparently fair game in the eyes of jihadists.

This isn't an Islamic problem, but it is cultural. Indonesia is the world's most populous Islamic country, yet Indonesian Muslims aren't committing attacks in the west. This is a problem that is unique to one region of the world, and our President is doing the finksing sword dance with the same folks who are funding and propagating this death cult that is masquerading as Islam.

to be fair, there isn't a lot of Indonesians in Europe outside of the Netherlands and most of those have been there for a hundred years.

To be fair, Indonesia has a long history of (domestic) Islamic terrorism as well, with the worst event being the 2002 Bali bombings with 200 people killed.

However, Indonesia has also been a reasonably stable democracy for the past twenty years. So, even if the entirety of North Africa and the Arab peninsula were stable democracies, there probably would still be Islamic terrorism (as is more or less the case with Tunisia already).

So, the real question is whether there would be terrorism in Indonesia if the standard of living were much higher and wealth were more widespread there.
