Here is the article. How many of the choices do you agree with? I found that I agreed with a majority of them myself. Granted there are a few states where I have not been to the town selected, and know nothing about. Others, like the one chosen in Illinois, I have not been to, but am familiar with, and suspect that it is indeed probably the right choice.

Totally agree with SLO, Grand Forks, Elko, Morgantown and Newport. Also respect Nashville (IN), Bozeman, and Portsmouth. Rather appalled at Covington, which is a suburb of Cincinnati, being the best in Kentucky. Frankfort or Versailles would be much better choices.

I'd have to agree with Illinois (Galena):

However (though I have been to neither), I am not sure I'd agree with Iowa's (Decorah).  I might go with the Dutch-themed town of Pella instead:

I liked Galena, IL also. Other nice towns I've been to include Bar Harbor, ME (in March); Wellfleet, MA; Petoskey, MI; North Myrtle Beach, SC (during Christmas-New Years week); Santa Rosa, CA.

Eau Claire Is good, but they could have gone with a smaller town like Bayfield . In any case Lazy monk isn't the best brewery in town. The Brewing Projekt is where I would suggest.

They effed up California something bad. Arcata, Lakeport, Geyserville, Guerneville,...even Auburn and Markleeville are more interesting places than SLO.

As someone who's been to Lewes, I'd say that place alone makes conservative Sussex county better than ANY of the other parts of Delaware.

Hawaii needs Laie.

Agreed with Maryland though.

Elko fecking sucks. I just drove through there a month and a half ago, it's part of that same pathetic mass of I-80 you just wanna sleep through...might as well include Wendover.  Sparks is MUCH better.

NC is really off, but why not Boone or Asheville or Cherokee? Hell, even Hendersonville deserves a shout-out.

Curiously, they nailed SC on the head!

What of Bristol for Tennessee?

They got Utah down though, but a case for St. George could be made too.

Bedford or Lexington > Sperryville regarding Virginia.

Oh and as for Arizona, gotta go with Apache County Seat St. John's.

Small cities aren't towns. Juneau, Bozeman, and Grand Forks shouldn't have been on the list.

Meh. Edmonds is kind of nice, but 90% of it is just suburban sprawl. For Washington, I'd probably reccomend either a small waterfront town like Port Townsend or Langley or a mountain town like Winthrop.

Northampton is a bit of an odd choice IMO; I don't really consider it a small town per se.

I agree with Sparks being better, but I assume it was excluded due to pretty much being part of Reno, which is probably bigger than what they think of as a "small town".

I don't think anyone from Edmonds would ever say that they grew up in a small town.

Port Townsend and Leavenworth were what came to mind for me.

The article defines small as under 60K, so any municipality under that is in the hunt (except I guess municipalities that are part of a larger metro area - nope Ambler, PA is in Montco so scratch that).

As to Nevada, it's bourgeoise, but why not Incline Village?

St. Augustine isn't really a "small" town. It has a lower population but every time I've been there, the streets are packed.  20,000 people are in the town at any given time, mostly tourists.

That's not an incorporated area. It'd be the first choice by far.

Carson City would've been better too, but I wasn't quite sure how large that area was.

LOL Grand Forks is not a small town. Stillwater isn't one I'd consider that either.

Northampton seems a little strange since it's population is so big (larger than my town by about 3,000, and my town is not considered "small") and it's a college town. The only place on the list I've actually been is Mystic, CT, which I can wholeheartedly agree with being on the list, even though it's not really a town (by New England standards... technically Mystic is a part of Groton and Stonington). The waterfront views are great, the food is tasty, and there is lots to do.

10/10 would live in Shocked

Also, I'm not sure when Portsmouth, NH became a "small town," relative to the rest of the state anyway.

Stillwater is neat, but it's a suburb now.  There are lots of neat small towns in Minnesota, though.

Ely is the gateway to the Boundary Waters, Grand Marais is a really cute fishing town on Lake Superior with all the bougie accoutrements.

Torie.. you can get a 3400 sq. ft. well built home right on Lake Superior in MN for about $700k... why not go for it?

Brunch on the patio with a view?

Or maybe it's a bit cool and breezy for outdoors

Also, Waterbury not winning in Vermont is an injustice.
