If Dems lose both specials I think she should step aside.

She should have stepped aside after 2016.

It's time for her to step aside regardless. I mean yes, Steny Hoyer would be her replacement, but once there's a Berniecrat/Our Revolution Caucus, Hoyer won't last much longer than Boehner did.

Should have gone for Tim Ryan when they had the chance.

Pelosi is more unpopular than Trump, Hillary, Ryan & Mitch McConnell ! At this point, she is dragging other house candidates down !

Just makes you wonder what will the GOP do if she comes out and says she retiring. I guess they go back and ask Quist and Ossoff if they voted for Obama.

I'm not sure this is necessarily gonna be such a good line of attack much longer if Trump keeps going down.

That said, some mileage is probably left, and they really should've gone for Ryan.

From the latest Harvard/Harris poll: Paul Ryan (33/49) Nancy Pelosi (30/51), she is more unpopular than Ryan and she has been out of power/spotlight for 6 years now.

Really should have gone for someone new after 2016. Not Tim Ryan though, that's too predictable. How about civil rights hero Congressman John Lewis?

If we don't want to be predictable, how about (potential) incoming freshers Quist or Ossoff. That'll surprise the Republicans!

Pelosi is obviously terrible and needs to go, but who else do the Democrats have?

Lewis would be a good choice, but honestly random CBC Congressman (D-Somewhere) would be a better choice than Pelosi.

A great choice, passionate, energetic, optimistic.

Since he lost the DNC race and is still in the House, why not Keith Ellison?
Why not indeed? Endorsed!

Honestly Pelosi should've been gone after 2010. There's no excuse for her to have kept her leadership position after four consecutive congressional losses.

She's also a bit moderate, which I think would be fine for this role (although I would rather have someone more liberal as Speaker).

Geographically, she's also advantageous - although Alabama isn't in the Democrats' electoral prospects, could help with the South in general. AKA, "Democrats have contempt for Southerners" won't work as well now.

Oh, give me a break. These special elections, win or lose, have nothing to do with the future well-being of the Democratic Party.
