45 states have passed some kind of resolution commemorating it IRL—it seems like it's a pretty notable holiday anywhere there's a significant African-American population (I know Chicago has an annual parade).  It's admittedly Southern-focused, but I think there's sufficient ground to make it a national holiday.

     That makes sense, and I am glad to hear that it is so broad-based IRL. The abolition of slavery was a momentous event that the whole of the country was party to.

     This seems straightforward enough, but I would like to hear from more than 2/6 Senators before going to a final vote.

This, of course, has my support.  My only caveat with this is the title is a bit misleading, since from what I understand this is a resolution commemorating African-American history and honoring those who endured slavery and not Southern heritage.  Slavery was widespread in the agricultural South, although it also very much existed in the Northern states and those who were indentured as slaves outside of the South should be honored just as well.

I agree with Scott.  I like the resolution and support it but the title seems kinda awkward, not just because slavery existed elsewhere but also because Southern heritage is a pretty big umbrella that covers a lot of things (art, literature, history, good, people, etc...).  Maybe it would make sense to change the title.
