Yes, it should have been gotten rid of in 1832. Abolish the House of Lords, as well. So if the tiny Republic of Georgia, whose Monarchy was only abolished by their conquest at the hands of Russia in the 19th century, were to overwhelmingly vote to restore their Monarchy, that would be opposed?

I suppose I'm nominally a republican but it's not something which exercises me particularly. This issue is cosmetic. I think it was Orwell who speculated that a socialist Britain would in all likelihood maintain the monarchy.
