They're not Democrats, really. They're more just power-hungry independents who allow GOP control of the chamber.

Good.  The Republican Senate has done a great job leading New York and pushing progressive values.  They deserve to govern.

Well yes, but these guys literally call themselves the "Independent Democratic Caucus", emphasis on the independent. I don't think it's fair to call them "Democrats" in this context, because its the Democratic party in the Senate who are trying to oust them.
