Tomorrow isn't just Memorial Day, it is also the Centennial of JFK!

https://www.bostonglobe.com/news/bigpicture/2017/05/26/remembering-jfk-his-birthday/7sxc2oqqBieIFo0tsNDNmO/story.html

This is all I could find so far, but I have hard time believing the last President to die in office, with all those conspiracies around it, and elected that young in the first place won't get some kind celebration.

Texas went crazy in '08 when LBJ hit it. Tricky Dick and Ford slipped by weirdly enough.

So yeah, here's a thread for anything else that happens today in commemoration, whether there's YUGE celebrations in Massachusetts, whether Trump makes a remark on it and bungles it or not, and so on and so on.

It always struck me that for a short time, and at the height of the Watergate Scandal, America had only one living President, the sitting President Nixon. This was a combination of FDR's long time in office, JFK's assassination, and LBJ's and Ike's poor health. The only other time this seemed to have happened was when John Adams was President, and Washington died in 1799.

Ike died in 69, Truman in 72 and LBJ in 73. And of course JFK died in 1963.

Most disgustingly overrated President/family ever. And yes, that includes Reagan.

Only for about two months. For some reason I thought Coolidge died later in the year.

The other gaps were much longer. In Nixon's case, it would have been almost 4 years were it not for Watergate.

It also happened in 1875 – 1877. Grant was prez, Andrew Johnson died in July that year. The previous year (1874), Millard Fillmore passed away and Pierce/Buchanan/Lincoln were already gone in the second half of the previous decade.

If JFK didn't get assassinated and if he didn't have all of those health problems, would he still have been alive today?

No?

Especially with his health issues, might not even make it out of the 80's.

I've heard some say he'd have been lucky to see the bicentennial.

No.

He could've asked to borrow whatever black magic kept Strom Thurmond ticking.

It's frustrating that he's the most notable politician to live past 100. If Teddy Roosevelt lived as long as Thurmond did, he would've lived long enough to see the island he once invaded on horseback acquire nuclear missiles.

To be fair, 2117 is quite far off, even from now. Wink
