This is basically the only way I could possibly like him even more! I think it would improve his chances.

It would hurt his reputation for authenticity and being principled, especially if, as it seems in the OP, the conversion is for political purposes.

Hurt, it would be out of character.

Unless the Second Coming of Jesus descending from heaven is televised to the world, as we witness the end of the old ways and the resurrection of the dead... it would not help him, it would hurt his biggest feature, his authenticity and consistency.

Jesus was a Jew, though.

Trump didn't pretend he's 'religious'. He made a promise.

Republicans get a pass at being hypocritical Christians just because they have an R after their name. Had Trump ran as a Democrat and still spouted off all the asinine garbage, the evangelicals would be throwing holy water on him left and right and would insist that an exorcism be performed to rid him of all of his demons, but that magic "R" is their get-out-of-jail-free card because "pro-life" and "pro-traditional marriage." He could probably defecate on a statue of Jesus and the Jesus voters would still support him.

To the OP, I'm not sure how him converting would help him, especially in the Democratic primaries where candidates' religion is rarely, if ever, mentioned. Now, if he ran as a Republican, he probably would have to convert. Seems as though most Americans would feel more comfortable with a Jewish president than they would with a socialist president?

I'd think that you'd like him more if he joined a hipster Christian post-hardcore band.

It would be obvious pandering so hurt of course. Isn't Sanders atheist/agnostic? It might be less damaging if he was a practicing Jew because the jump would be less.

It would not help him, particularly among Evangelicals. Remember Joe Lieberman!

I don't think Sanders lost/would lose too many votes because he is Jewish. I hope I'm right.

It would not necessarily be out of character as there are plenty of Christian leftists/liberals, though it would seem odd, and would remind some voters of the dark days of forced conversions.

I like the idea of him joining a Christian hipster hardcore band!

Today's mainstream politicized Evangelicals are conservative Republicans, pure and simple. Or at best they are libertarian-leaning conservatives. Of all voters, they are the least likely to support government help to the needy, even if they are in need of such help themselves. (To be fair, they are fairly generous in giving private--i.e., church-based-- help to the needy, what with food drives, clothing drives, crisis pregnancy centers, etc.)

Today's mainstream (white, non-Hispanic) practicing Catholics vote just like Evangelicals, notwithstanding the political animosity between these two groups prior to Roe v. Wade and the fact that some Fundamentalists regard the Pope as the Antichrist.

I've never known Rudy Giuliani to be denied communion because of his pro-choice views; he is a Republican! On the other hand, we all know Dems who have been denied communion. I'm Catholic, but I see that as a political decision, pure and simple.

But I digress. Rant over.

No impact, I would say. Judaism and Christianity don't make such a difference I guess. Being a muslim or atheist is probably more of a negative factor. However, I think the religion of candidates should play no role in campaigns.

Does the OP not seem slightly concerning and anti-Semitic to anyone, at least to some extent?

He wouldn't because he's pro-choice.

My pro-choice parents converted to Catholicism, so it happens. And obviously there are a lot of prominent pro-choice Catholic politicians. And all but a few Christian denominations feel the same way about abortion as the Catholic Church does.

And this is just a random hypothetical anyway.

It didn't to me, as the OP was describing a hypothetical scenario and not advocating any particular course of action. I'm curious, should it seem anti-Semitic to me?

Plus if Jews converting to Christianity is anti-Semitic then so is the New Testament especially Paul's writings.

Well, then Paul's writings make me uncomfortable. Then again, the whole bible makes me uncomfortable because it commands my death by stoning, so...
