Of course it's wrong. There's not much difference between "sh**t" and "sh

I've always thought swear filters are pointless, as even our youngest forum members indulge in the occasional mouth-off. As always, the decision is up to Dave.
As an aside, it might be quite funny if instead of converting swears to contain asterisks, that they were changed to comedy nonsense words instead. E.g. 'shizzle', 'Mother Hubbard', 'fiddlesticks', etc.

I don't think that filtering them achieves much. In any event, a few posters have found how to avoid filters anyway. However, I don't see why any mature user should ever want to do so.

We could lift it for a week, and see if people take advantage too much. If they do, we can put the filter back on. If not, keep it off

Personally, I'm all for the filter that turns swear words into completely different words for comedic value.

Great idea, anyone who used BB code to say the F word a couple times can't do bold text.

It seems to me that it'd be a lot easier to just strip away the BB code when you're checking for censored words and then put it back when you're done.

How exactly would you be able to do that? There are dozens of ways to use BB code to get past the censor.

You could just remove all instances of BB code when checking for censored words. Of course, there would be other ways to get around it, but this would remove stuff like people who do
to get around the censor.
