If you'd read the bill, you'd see that it doesn't ban Israeli Divestment.

Perhaps you should read bills before you talk about them?

As it has been over 24 hours since my motion to amend and it has failed to find a seconder, I will go ahead and call that the motion has failed.

I guess we aren't big fans of grammatical correctness? Tongue

Anyway, does anyone else have something they'd like to discuss regarding the contents of the bill?

I understand the importance of defensing Israel but I must reiterate, why should our economy be beholden to the security wellbeing of Israel?
I agree. While I support the right to self-determination of the state and people of Israel. Their government is troubling, treating Palestinians as second class citizens; though of course, Israel is still far removed from an extreme authoritarianism, as has been stated by the Gentleman from Missouri (JTC).
The actions of their government toward a minority group doesn't reflect what we should and do strive for at home and what we shouldn't endorse abroad.

Furthermore, I feel the government of the South, has no obligation or just reason to latch itself and its economy directly to the economy of the state of Israel.

Is it too late to second? (And does supporting a move for an alteration, as clarification necessitate support of the bill or not?)

It's a bit late, but supporting amending a bill (especially when it just fixes grammatical errors), doesn't necessarily mean you support the bill.

In any case, it seems that discussion on the contents may have died down, unless there's something else that could be debated?

For the record, I don't believe the far-left narrative that Israel is a horribly authoritarian government. However, I do think there are legitimate reasons to boycott them, even though I don't support BDS personally.

Thirding the amendment, and I think we have unanimous consent on it. I'm okay with proceeding to a final vote.

Bringing this bill to a 48 hour final vote, with the agreed amendment:

Nay

(not because I oppose the bill, I just don't think it belongs in in regional legislature)
