Maybe not most, but certainly a startling amount.  18% think homosexuality should be legal in the UK.  4% said they sympathize with terrorists.  Sure, 4% is low, but out of 3+million?...and that's just people willing to admit they agree with terrorism on a form.  39% think women should always obey their husband.  33% think it's ok to stone female adulterers.  35% think Jews have too much power in the UK, but that's probably lower than this message board.  Only 34% would contact the police if they knew someone who was a jihadist.

There's this tendency among many of us (non-Muslim) Westerners to act utterly surprised and appalled that Islam generally isn't like, Enlightenment-era Protestantism or something. Or to pretend that it is, as the generally well-meaning but inane and dangerously simplistic  "Islam is a religion of peace " memes demonstrate. Somehow we need to get past this view.

There are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world.  Islam is not the religion xenophobic, fear-mongering would-be tyrants pretend it is. If it was, there would be far more violence going on than Christian nations invading Muslim ones, and deaths from terrorism wouldn't be below accidents and suicide (or, in the US, death by cop). And the terrorism would go way down from its already low level if the world would stop tolerating the Gulf dictatorships that export it.

Why do modern liberals want to hand western Europe over to Islam? The non-muslim native birthrate in western Europe is below replacement, that is a fact, and you aren't doing anything to reverse that. In addition to that, there is no evidence you will ever stop immigration from muslim countries, because any time it's brought up you scream and cry like babies about "racism" even though Islam is an ideology, not a race. You put those two things together and it means several western countries will become majority muslim. Japan may have a below replacement level birthrate too, but they aren't importing muslims or any other foreigners en masse, so they will still be Japanese a hundred years from now. It's a simple matter of input and output, more non-muslim natives are getting old and dying, while the new arrivals who have more children are muslim. So unless you change, it is inevitable that several western European countries will become majority muslim, and suffer all the negative effects that come with it. All the progress our ancestors have achieved will be given away in just a few generations out of some weird combination of self-hatred with a smug sense of moral superiority with your virtue signalling about how progressive you think you are.

I can't understand this current mindset of modern liberalism, and that's one of the main reasons I "left the faith" so to speak. We used to bash the stupidity of Christianity all the time, and I had no issue with that because I gave up religion a long time ago. But suddenly you have this weird fetish about protecting Islam. Is it some sort of knee-jerk reaction to just do the opposite of whatever conservatives in your country want? I think it might be something more than that. It seems that some people are too weak minded to live without a religion. We destroyed the power of the Christian church in our societies, and instead of living without it, you invented some new religion to fill the gap. Modern liberalism has become a religion. Your privilege determined by aspects of how you were born like your race, sexuality, or gender have become the new original sin. And that can even be applied on a national level. That because the western countries are so successful it could only have come about from committing evil against the unsuccessful countries, so they need to atone out of collective guilt. So you don't see muslims as believers in a disgusting supremacist ideology, but as "poor brown people" that need to be saved, and if you hug them and give them candy then they'll be just as progressive as you. Sorry, their faith is stronger than your faith, you will lose that battle. Some of you are too brainwashed to even consider this concept, or even think about the future religious demographics of your countries. But you will worry about climate change, that seems to be the only time you ever think about the future. Whatever, most of you will just respond with the equivalent of "blasphemy" in your new religion speak.

Meh, you can find plenty of polls of any demographic of Americans or any given European countries' citizens showing disturbingly (to say the least) high percentages with (ahem) deplorable opinions. And all of this depends on how questions are asked, and how respondents interpret them, among all the other things that can have significant effects one way or another on poll results. Plus, linguistic and cultural barriers can come into play with much of the world's Muslim population.

More to the point, Naso genuinely--and wrongly believes--that there's no middle ground. Yes, fight Jihadist terrorism and the intolerance that spawns it, but don't build walls, metaphorical or otherwise, that contribute to that divide and unfairly exclude the vast majority of Muslims who don't sympathize with terrorists.

Just think of how depraved the West would have been had the Nazis or Stalinists been victorious in their struggles. We would be going into a dark age of intolerance and brutality. I can see the Nazis putting Albert Einstein on trial, convicting him, and having him burned at the stake. Maybe somewhere in the hulk of the dead British Empire, there might be some Islamic scholar taking a good look at Relativity and deciding that it speaks ultimate truth and is thus compatible with Islam. Maybe the Islamic world could use the rejected pariah Freud to explain why Islam is closer to truth than "Aryan" drunkenness and pornography. So maybe the new era of progress develops in Kenya? or Punjab?

It would be a good topic for an alternative history. I can imagine an Islamic writer suggesting a happy sequel to The Man in the High Castle... basically, the Qu'ran replaces Mein Kampf, and the whole moral culture changes.  After all, the Qu'ran is much more readable than Mein Kampf, a thoroughly dreadful tome. But that would take an Islamic writer -- someone who can explain how even Bach can be turned into an intellectual apostle of the new civilization. (OK, replace the Christian lyrics of Bach cantatas with Islamic lyrics).
