Yes, the Germans have gone the extra mile for their Nazis after the war.

The reason he had been left alone and got as short sentence as he did was the fact that he was a small fish, whose only greater relevance was the fact, that he was as open about what happened at Auschwitz. If he had kept low profile, no one would have found, even if Nazi hunters had known about him, they would have ignored him. It was the fact that he decided to confess on global television, and the death of all the big fish, which resulted in him ending before the courts.
