The pro-life Democrat vs. the pro-choice Republican (now Democrat).

I'd vote for Casey.

Was Bob Casey the last socially conservative Governor we had?

Even if I only knew about Hafer up to 1990...still Casey Sr...he may have been a populist...but an honorable one.

Even more so today.

Hafer.  A libertarian-leaning liberal would get my vote over a populist any day of the week.

Hmm, I guess I would have to research 1990 PA a bit more, though given the result, I imagine Casey must have benefitted from other factors in addition to being a pro-life Democrat.

It is interesting how little the results match up with PA's 2008 Presidential map. Though Casey won in a landslide and the only county he lost (Montgomery) is now reliably Democratic, the county breakdown reveals more. McCain won 3 of the 7 counties that Casey got over 75%, and Obama won 5 of the 11 counties where Casey got below 60%.

Unless I felt there was some upcoming reason the party needed the seat, I would probably have reluctantly voted for Hafer, although Im pretty split between the two.

Hafer, though obviously I am not proud of her behavior since that time.

She was a total clown back then, too.
