John McCain wins the Republican primary in a landslide, it isn't even close and that's clear from the outset.  Orrin Hatch is mad because he wants to be president and then he decides to run as a Democrat.  He quickly apologizes for being a conservative for 75 years and endears himself to 30% of the democratic primary, enough to win in a 11-man shootout.

In the general, the flip-flopping Hatch stands no chance against the moderate, well-liked McCain.  Hatch is able to only carry his home state of Utah (and DC obviously) en route to defeat.
