Labour holds Dudley North by 22 votes.  Why are so many elections extremely close?

UKIP voters screwed the Tories tonight and for they are big fools as they voted for a far right candidate in 2015 and then far left in 2017.

If UKIP voted torie we would have had the tories up to 350 seats maybe instead of 319 .

Some of the Pabour % were last seen in the 50's...some inner Liverpool seats have gone with 85% of the vote!

Well, they came from Labour to begin with so why would they vote Tory now?

But much of the voter base came from Labour.

They didn't vote for UKIP on social/economic reasons.

As a wise man once said: aaaaaaayyyy lmao

But basically: in most of the country a standard sh!t election (but even that is way better than what was expected! The number of Labour candidates who hadn't bothered to write victory speeches and who won...) with a deffo Brexit backlash in London... and... unprecedented involvement of the young in the political process. The results in studenty areas are *extraordinary*. It is a good thing that attention will have to be paid to young people.

Seriously, I'm no expert on British elections, but when's the last time the Torie's had this many seats in Scotland?

1983

Shocked since the Thatcher slide? Damn! I repeat my earlier question. What happened?  Huh
In a word: Indy Ref detoxified the Tory brand in Scotland.

In part, it were leave areas now swinging to the Tories. Banff and Buchan was majority leave. Gordon was about 45% leave. There are probably people as well who don't want another indy referendum and now voted Conservative.

That's what I meant. Brexit is not the only issue. On economic and social issues these voters are much closer to Labour than the Conservatives, they voted in their best interest. The real fool today is Theresa May.

I hadn't realized so many constituencies had flipped from Labour to the Tories. Anything particular about these places?

Oh what irony, it seems as if Scotland saved the Tories...without their +12 up north, it would have been impossible for the Conservatives+DUP to form a majority which would have led to a Labour minority government.
