It may be for the best for a weakened CON Govt to get a bad deal and more cuts a paving the way for a Labour landslide in 2021.

I guess a good parallel is the AUS 2016 election, didn't the PM there go an election there looking to expand his majority only to see it greatly reduced and in a much weaker position?

This is probably the best case scenario for Labour a weakened Tory Gov't presiding over tough Brexit and more austerity cuts. Setting the party up for an outright majority in the next GE.
