So outside of the Big 4 parties, where would a potential coalition of chaos get the 12 needed votes to make Corbyn PM? Sounds like a recipe for another General Election.

I really hope the reports about Sheffield Hallam aren't true. This is a bad time to lose a good parliamentarian and a strong advocate for Europe like Clegg.

So what are our takeaways from this?

Mine are:

1. Hubris is still as powerful a force in human affairs as ever.
2. Muh fundamentals are overrated. Campaigns matter.

3. Directly stating left-wing values is more effective than standing for some vague reasonableness.

3a. It is in fact possible to win back working-class voters who've flirted with right-wing populism by doing so.

In Britain, sure. Working-class voters have historically been much stronger for Labour than they've been for U.S. Democrats, so let's not act like this is directly comparable to America.

If the results hold, it's also notable how the recent terror attacks didn't scare people into voting Tory, which is quite surprising in my eyes.

Sounds like a reason to get working on building that solidarity, but okay.

My point is that it's easier to win back voters who probably voted for you two years ago than ones who haven't in decades like in the U.S. Plus, British voters are way more elastic, and that's for a number of reasons.

BBC swingometer showing a >1% swing towards Labour overall, with 9 seats flipping CON to LAB.

It's also quite late in Germany.

Are the Tories consolidating the Leave vote in Scotland? Angus went 52-48 but CON currently has 46%. Needless to say, this is looking like a bad night for Sturgeon.

The Tories are gonna have an even longer and more somber night than they could have imagined...

Yeah, they're getting crushed in London if that Battersea swing holds elsewhere.

Lib Dems have yet to win a single constituency...

14 sounds way too optimistic, especially if Clegg is in deep sh*t. Sad election.

Wow, it seems that Ruth Davidson will really save the day for the Conservatives. There will be huge pressure on her to move to Westminster as soon as a safe Conservative seat opens up.

Any outside shot at her becoming Tory leader? I wouldn't mind that.

Tories could form a working majority with the help of NI Unionists if need be.

God the BBC performing lewd acts on Nick Clegg as he exits stage left is making me gag.

Every university student in the UK has been demonstrably hurt by his ambition and cowardice.

Give me a break with this. Tuition fees were tripled under Labour leadership. It's amazing how Clegg has to take sh*t for moderating the Cameron government when it could've been worse.

To campaign to remove a total tuition fee of £9K to instate a £9K a year (£27K total) - the highest public universite fees in the world? Won their seats off the back of the student vote? No amount of whataboutery excuses this.

I get that, and the coalition proved to be a disaster in the end for Lib Dems, but he wasn't the PM. When was he going to get a chance to implement his manifesto in full exactly?

Anyways, I'm glad a heavyweight like Cable has returned. Hopefully he can take the mantle from Farron as leader.

Popular vote:

LAB 9,409,613 - 41.2%
CON 9,350,002    - 40.9%

Corbyn getting Fairfax'd soon?

This doesn't roll off the tongue very well. You should try something else.

With 7 seats for Sinn Fein, a majority is 322. That means the magic number for Conservatives is 312, with which they can form a government with the DUP.

What kind of compromises will DUP demand?

Ceredigion, currently home to the last Welsh Lib Dem, is on its 4th recount. Gonna end up being a tight result.

Anna Soubry states that May needs to "consider her position", argues the campaign was dreadful.

I wish sane Tories like her could take control of the party, but that's wishful thinking at this point.

Poll : whose election was a worse decision, May's snap election or Cameron's referendum?

The first was worse for her party's electoral success, the second was worse for the world.
