The day of the inauguration, a millionaire was arrested for assaulting a maid and got a $50 fine. A reporter covering protests, however, faces more than seven decades behind bars.

I predict the same body that made these laws he's charged under will soon invite Gianforte into their ranks?

There has to be more to the investigation regarding Cantu.  This doesn't make sense.

I was thinking that too, but then I thought that even if he did do something bad, how could that possibly get him decades in prison? What could he possibly have done? Short of severely harming someone, none of these protestors should be looking at years in prison, and that the government can even stack on charges that lead to this many possibly years is absurd.

You don't honestly expect the same people who can make and influence the laws (i.e. the wealthy) to be equally subject to them, do you? If this reporter had the right connections, wealth, and surname, this certainly wouldn't be a case right now.

A few questions, since something about this seems off:

Why did other reporters have their charges dropped, entirely, while this one man had his increased?

Do any other protestors, ones who may have been doing something legitimately violent, face similar charges? If so, how many? And why is this reporter facing the same ones?

We quite obviously don't know everything about this case. I am withholding judgment and comment until further details to emerge. "I know speculating is part of human nature, but please don't draw any conclusions here."
