A Different 20th Century - 1944 General Election

On the Pacific Front despite early losses in the Philippines, would stop the Japanese Advance at midway and after a victory at Guadalcanal, the US would begin their offensive in the Pacific which has continued to this day . On the European Front the Western Allies have defeated the Axis Powers in North Africa , Italy , and now have successfully opened up a 2nd front in Europe thanks to a successful amphibious invasion of German Occupied France at Normandy which would lead to the Liberation of Paris in August.With Allied forces now on the offensive both on the West and East , victory looks inevitable and the only question remains is how to deal with a Post War Occupied Germany , and make sure this type of war never happens again .

Another big event that happened in July of 1944 was the passing of President McNary and due to his passing Vice President, Arthur Vandenberg would become President. At the RNC he wasnt challenged by any Republican for the nomination meaning he will be running for a first full term as President.

President Vandenberg and Vice President Cordell Hull are both running on a platform of establishing a United Nations where countries all across the world can resolve disputes through diplomacy rather than resolving them through and stop wars like this current one from happening again by using a world united force to stop imperialists countries with tools such as economic sanctions, defensive operations, peacekeeping operations. They also promises to keep America armed in the future and keep them as the leader of the free world.

Hull argues his time as Vice President for 8 years best prepare him to create such an organization, while President Vandenburg believes him being Vice President during the War gives him the best experience to successfully create such an organization and believes it would be a mistake to change horses midstream.

President Vandenberg Domestically promises not to return to the economic policies of the Barkley era calling them failed policies and promises to instead promote an agenda of fiscal responsibility, reducing taxes to increase consumer demand, and a pro-business agenda in general.

Nn the other hand Former Vice President Hull Domestically promises to restore the Barkley domestic agenda once the war is over, expand his Medicare program for the poor as well, and promises to always stand with American Labor.
