So I'm going on a road trip tomorrow to NYC for a week. I know that there are a bunch of tolls on the way, and that it's recommended to pay them using an EZ-Pass. However, I have no idea where to get one in Wisconsin. Any advice on what to do here?

Is it  the same system used in Chicago? Why not get one in Illinois if so?

WisDOT might know.

Having driven Chicago <---> the east coast many times at this point, I can strongly recommend avoiding tolls at least in Indiana, Ohio, and Chicagoland. The tollways don't save you much time at all (the possible exception in your case maybe being Rte 94, depending on where you're coming from in WI.) If your destination is NYC you're unfortunately going to have to be paying some tolls, though.

Looked into it a bit. Looks like I-Pass might be your best bet, which you can find here.

I had I-Pass when I lived in WI.

Bring sunflower seeds and an empty bottle to cope with the unsatisfied oral fixation.

You have to take the toll road thru Illinois, but take 355 instead of 294 if you can.  294 is horrible.

For the time being, it looks as if the highways of CT will remain toll-free.....for now.  Legislature adjourned without bringing up the tolls bill.  Smiley

BTW, I 95 is probably the best way to get through the NYC/CT area....although there's no trucks allowed on the Merritt Parkway (route 15), that road can get quite congested, and it doesn't have exits in every town.  Also....avoid route 8 if at all possible, it's quite the narrow and busy road.

In my experience it's a coin flip between going 20 mph on Merritt vs going 20 mph on 95. But I think Arch's destination is NYC, so (thankfully!) they don't have to go through any of that.

NYC has eliminated human operated pay tolls in the city and replaced them with cameras...if you don't have an E-Z pass, you'll get hit with a hefty fine.

Ewww. Thank god im never going to new york.
