What if Chris Christie didn't make the foolish decision to shut down lanes of the GW Bridge? How would this affect the Republican primaries and the 2016 election as a whole?

Christie was extremely popular before bridgegate, and without that he not Jeb is the establishment candidate and unlike Jeb he keeps the lead .

It was pretty great watching him make Rubio malfunction. I don't really see it though. I think he does better but Trump and Cruz still outperform him.

Trump would pose a threat to Christie's candidacy, but I think a lot of Cruz's success in our world is attributed to the anti-Trump vote. Granted, Christie isn't a conservative Republican, so I'm not sure who the far-right conservatives would go for.

If Bridgegate didn't destroy him, his campaign would have gotten off to a stronger start, but some blunder or poor performance would definitely hurt him in the long run.

Christie's chances were destroyed when he hugged Obama after Superstorm Sandy. Bridgegate was moot in the long run.

I mean, Christie was one of the few Republicans who was projected to defeat Hillary in 2013 polling.

But he wasn't going to win the nomination because of that hug.

True, hugging Obama 2 weeks before his re-election probably hurt him a fair amount in the primary.

He still had the hugging episode, but putting that aside I think no Bridgegate there is a strong chance Christie wins the nomination and is the 45th pres.
