Jackboot behavior is to be expected as America cozies up to Fascistic rhetoric and governance. The violent fanatics, which are still a small yet dangerous minority, feel emboldened. None of this is good for disadvantaged groups or democracy.

Terrible situation but politics is a contact sport (not throwing soda, that guy was an idiot). Get tough or get out. He got out.

You're as much part of the problem as the guy who threw the soda. A healthy, democratic society would not witness this occurring as frequently as we do now, nor would it have so-called "moderates" excusing right-wing political violence and intimidation.

not throwing soda, that guy was an idiot (in my comment) - how is that an excuse? Politics is politics. This stuff has happened and will continue to happen, it doesn't make it right but this country has never been a utopia for candidates or elected officials.

^ Another background thing that has come to light that tells me he wasn't a serious candidate. Any professional candidate would have cleaned out his Twitter or started a new one or just deleted it. FB works better for outreach anyway.

There is a long and unfortunate history of this kind of stuff in American politics. It isn't good and it isn't right, but one cannot blame a candidate for taking his family's safety into consideration first

Death threats are bad.  Almost as bad as actual violence.

So far this has happened in IA-4, which isn't flipping, and in Alabama, where the democratic party is utterly hopeless regardless. Let me know when this happens in some race that's actually important.

Are people seriously making "it's always been this way, therefore it's useless to try to stop it" arguments about political violence and intimidation? Really?
