Trump (or, rather, those figures who formulate his policy for him) isn't capable of formulating a coherent foreign policy as long as the State apparatus of the American government responsible for executing that policy (CIA, NSA, etc.) are at odds with him.

He's also at odds with himself. The tension between Fortess America and an illiberal hegemonic America has been and will continue to be impossible for him to reconcile.

Honestly, this is the only explanation that makes Trump out to be somewhat sane.

This would make a good sitcom if it weren't real.

His Middle East policy is a lot worse than I expected. His whole foreign policy team aside from Tillerson (who is basically powerless from what I can tell) is dreadful.

Wasn't Mattis supposed to be the sane one? Those who think that the political situation in this country would be fine if Trump wasn't President are fools.

I'm slowly coming around to agree with this. That casting Trump as being orders of magnitude worse than those he's surrounded himself with is just wishful thinking. Not that he isn't awful, because he is. He's only a symptom. The many dysfunctions he represents in the nation, government and GOP will remain even if he leaves office.

The sale had already been approved back in November. This is just the contract signing to make it final. Thanks Obama!

Trump signed onto it when he could have stopped it at any time, it's his baby too whether you like it or not.

Word is he's basically letting Mattis and the generals do whatever they want at the Pentagon.
