Something I started wondering about when reading more about the Shia clergy. We see scholars of the same rank wearing diffrent types of turban. Only Sayyids, those accepted as legitimate descendants of the Muhammad, are allowed a black one, while others must wear white. That is why Khomeini, Khamenei, Khatami, Nasrallah or Al-Sistani all wore black, while poor dudes like Rafsanjani or Rouhani white.

What's been intriguing me, given the number of Sayyids out there, how legitimate their descent actually is?

In this case سعيد is a name, while  سيد is a title.
