After criticism from even tapper, wapo, and chris hayes, NYT had to correct an article

Pure trash. And to do it on the day scalise was shot and in surgery is beyond comprehension.

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2017/06/15/what_the_new_york_times_missed_when_it_got_the_palin_giffords_story_so_wrong.html

This is what the NYT wrote before the correction:

That bit about Palin inciting the Giffords shooting is a vicious, baseless lie.

There is no proof that the Tucson shooting was inspired by the crosshairs map. There's no evidence Loughner ever saw the map or even followed Palin. The shooter reportedly didn't watch television, he didn't read the news and he didn't listen to talk radio.

Despite the correction, that's still an unbelievable garbage article by the so called best paper in America.

Even WAPO couldn't believe it. They gave it four Pinocchios.

So Palin's group never ran this map?

No, Palin wasn't at fault for the Giffords shooting. It was standard Middle American misogyny:

"It was not just his appearance — the pale shaved head and eyebrows — that unnerved them. It was also the aggressive, often sexist things that he said, including asserting that women should not be allowed to hold positions of power or authority.

One individual with knowledge of the situation said Mr. Loughner once got into a dispute with a female branch employee after she told him that a request of his would violate bank policy. He brusquely challenged the woman, telling her that she should not have any power."

http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2011/01/17/loughner-didnt-think-women-should-hold-positions-of-authority-or-power/

As for the NY Times, a complete joke publication that cheerleaded the Iraq war, and likes to pretend it's above the likes of Breitbart but partners when them when it suits them.

There is no evidence the shooter even saw that map, let alone was inspired by it.

Please correct the subject line: the original piece was an editorial, not an article. Given that editorials aren't fact-checked and often are riddled with errors or misrepresentations, this is bad but not the same as an error in an article.

Yeah this is disgusting. The image Palin ran was questionable, but blaming a shooting on it is just looking for ways to politicize a tragedy.

Violent rhetoric certainly runs the risk of firing up the wrong lunatic, but trying to pin political terrorism on people we don't like is disingenuous at best and disgustingly disrespectful at worst. Palin was about as responsible for Jared Loughner snapping as Sanders is for James Hodgkinson snapping, and I say that as an Arizonan who doesn't like Sarah Palin. In the end, the responsibility lies on the shoulders of those who choose to be murderers.

It is simultaneously possible for the infamous Palin crosshairs map to be irresponsible and in poor taste, and for it to have nothing to do with why Loughner - who had by many accounts been stalking Giffords for many years - carried out his attack

NYT was right to correct article, though they really should have rescinded the editorial.

Also, LOL at Marty of all people linking Slate articles

Sounds like something our previous (MIA) Atlas member "Seriously!" said about an article he previously posted from "TheCanary."
Then when you hit the link and went to their website, one of the top stories on their page was "THE FEMALE ORGASM, A MYSTERY."
Remember that ?

278th most-visited site in the US. For comparison, Vox is #356, MSNBC is #440, and The Boston Globe is #980. I recommend checking your surroundings to make sure there isn't rock in all directions.

Just because a website is visited quite often, doesn't mean the articles/stories it displays are trustworthy and reliable.
61st most-visited site in the US (even better than slate.com) is Breitbart.com
http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/breitbart.com

Who much of their malarkey do you read and believe in ?

slate.com is comparable to TheCanary.com
There you go.
Would you like to defend TheCanary.com (in any way, shape or form)  ..... would love to hear it.

I never "defended" Slate, I said that it wasn't obscure, which is what you were suggesting in the first place.

Now we have marty posting something from "slate.com"

There is nothing ambiguous about this post. You are just talking about something completely different now.
