I notice gender often isn't discussed in this forum from being an outside reader. I think it's an interesting topic that deserves more attention.

Who do you think would do better against Trump in 2020- a man or woman?

This might sound terribly sexist, but I think a man would be more successful against Trump in a GE. Mostly because I think most of America is ignorant enough to still think male leaders=strength. Trumps perceived "strength" by voters was one of the only things he had going for him along with the perceived business expertise. That being said however, Trump did bully all of the men out of the 2016 primary. But a general election would likely be a different story.

I think a Warren or Gillibrand nomination would be a terrible move strategically for Dems. In my eyes, it might be good to get in the dirt with a Franken or Biden nomination. No more of this Love Trumps Hate stuff. That's not going to get white working class men to vote for you.

Cory Booker/Gov Steve Bullock for 2020. Can win the PA, VA corridor and have the 279 electors to beat the GOP.

Love Booker, but I think he might be too nice to run against Trump.

Someone who is intelligent, street-smart, a fighter.

I am thinking of a well-known trial attorney from Southfield, MI-- but I won't mention any names. ;-)

As most said Obama was overrated as well in 2005, look how well things turned out for him.

Grassroots are reelecting Dems like they did in 2005, just like Obama did, Booker can capitalize if Pelosi becomes Speaker again near term and win the presidency and establish a Democratic majority for a long time with reapportionment and a 2022 favorable Senate map.

That isn't necessary to win the election.

I don't think gender matters as long as they have more charisma than a house plant and some half decent ideas.

Gender and race don't matter. What matters is that the Democrats nominate someone who can win and isn't a centrist Clintonite on economic policy.

Booker is a terrible candidate, it's all about economics. He also doesn't have someone like Michelle to help him out. Dems can't choose him.

You can't have a communist nut job like Bernie Sanders as the nominee and win. I do agree that the dems can't have a clintonite like Booker or Kaine or Warren but you still need someone reasonable like Biden. Honestly I think he's the only democrat that can defeat Trump or Pence in 2020. But really I don't get why the dems say that the Democratic Party needs to have a left wing nut job like Sanders to win but as the same time they say the GOP can't nominate someone too conservative like Cruz or Carson or Paul. You can't have it both ways

Someone who doesn't totally suck. Now that is a high bar for Presidential candidates, so of course one should be open to all genders.

I think Kamela Harris, Klobuchar and Booker and Martin O'Malley will be running for the Democratic ticket in 2020 along with Hickenlooper.

I don't think there are any really strong potential female candidates now that Hillary is finished. I guess Harris, Klobuchar, and Caroline Kennedy are fine. Caroline Kennedy and Harris lack experience. I just don't like Klobuchar.

Gender will not be the dispositive factor - by a long shot.

I suspect that if Hillary were "Harvey Dean Rodham," "he" would probably have fared worse than Hillary actually did.

Also remember that Carly Fiorina was done in by her poor track record as CEO, which again was not related to her gender.

Anybody but Gabbard, Harris, or Caroline Kennedy. (Which probably means it'll be one of them because people are the worst.)

I mean my top two realistic choices (Gillibrand and Klobuchar) are women so, woman I guess. I care more about qualifications and electability than the gender of a candidate though.

I do not think gender is important but I do think the Democratic nominee will be a man.

Why not Caroline Kennedy? I don't think she's great, but I don't see why she would be among the worst candidates.

Caroline Kennedy, Booker or Kamela Harris will galvanize the Latino vote and Black vote that was part of the Obama coalition.  It won't matter which one of them got the nomination

Yes but remember that they need to win either the Iowa caucus or New Hampshire primary to break out from the pack.

Many minority voters feel like Democrats take them for granted. Sure, having another minority candidate might increase turnout, but it's not going to address that underlying problem.
