It's generally considered good form to start these threads with some discussion of your own. After all, if you can't be bothered to do so, why should anyone else?

Well, I don't know much about Sadat (I was 15 when he was assassinated) but I recall him being somewhat of a peacemaker (of course, the same can be said about President Jimmy Carter). Today, Coptic Christians are being heavily persecuted. Would extremists have less of a foothold in the country had Sadat survived?

He remains a hated dictator until he is successfully assassinated.

Thank you for the insight. Really, I have no idea how I somehow got the idea he was a peacemaker.

He struck a peace deal with Israel during which he opened diplomatic ties and negotiated the eventual return of the Sinai to Egypt.

Therefore, every Egyptian who had been committed to Sadat's and his predecessor's mission to eventually destroy Egypt viewed him as a turncoat traitor.

Did you type "Egypt" one too many times?

I imagine Anwar Essmat Sadat and/or his brother, Talaat Sadat, eventually take power, once their uncle is willing to step down. The two eventually create a rather stable Egypt.
