Both sides still need centrist voters. Not everyone is partisan.

Jon Ossoff was the most bland, policy-ignoring, featureless center-left asshole they could find and he still got called a f**king San Francisco Maoist.

Who's 'they'? Dude got propped up by random people on Daily Kos.

Implying Daily Kos isn't a center left site.

Your point? Some of you #DemExit people think the all-powerful DNC handpicks every single candidate, when in this case, and actually in all of these special elections this year, that has not been the case.

Do I think they handpick the candidate? No. But do they dictate the type of campaign Ossoff runs, including running on a bland "Durr Imma cut waste" message because that's what overpaid campaign assholes think is a winning strategy? Yes they absolutely do.

Well the DCCC has got its work cut out for them in the Romney-Clinton districts in and around Orange County. Obviously it's not the same; but a lot of the groups Dems need to win over here are quite similar to the constituents in GA-6.

Ossoff was probably the best fit in terms of ideology and messaging for these kind of voters. Sh!t

Those districts are anywhere from 2-4% more Democratic than GA-6 and they aren't Republican gerrymanders. It wouldn't even take the sort of swing that occurred in GA-6 to totally turn Orange County blue.

Ignoring, for a second, the embarrassment that was GA-6, can we perhaps take note of the fact that Parnell actually made a race out of SC-5?

reasonable high turnout loss >>> reasonable low turnout loss.

When is Pelosi ever going to be held accountable 2010..2012..2014..2016..2018? Why are House Dems ok with this?

Didnt you hear? The geniuses over at the DNC are hiring Rham Emanuel to coordinate the 2018 mid-terms. He's going to brush the dust off the 90s DLC playbook and bring back the Clinton days! Sure it hasn't worked in nearly 20 years but dont worry ...any day now!
I don't think putting up ultra-liberal Sandernistas will do it
Tell it Jeremy Corbyn

The Dems have been running centrist trash all my life. It dosen't work and it never will. The GOP keeps pushing further and further right and they only win more. It's time for Dems to get a ing clue and chuck Pelosi, Hoyer, Perez, Schumer, et all to the side
GOP will move more to the center over time. Centrism is the key for both parties

It needs to be centrism with a vision though.

Centrism that is cold and without a vision depresses turnout.

Look at the districts that Republicans hold that supported Hillary between anywhere from 6-20% (FL-27 being the highest). If this sort of swing was duplicated in those districts, Republicans would all those seats.

Moral victory? Is that the new narrative?

You dropped 7:1 the amount of funds into this race and LOST.

You nationalized this race and LOST.

You made it a referendum on President Trump and LOST.

You don't get to change the script now to the "moral victory" line.

Trying to compare this race, the most expensive in history, to previous races where the GOP didn't face any credible opponent is laughable.

This is a swing district that the President carried by 1 point.

Handel IMPROVED on that tonight. After all that was thrown into this race.

When Corbyn overcame the media and half of his party slandering him as a radical, and gave Labour their first glimpse at the Prime Minister's seat in years, I was excited because finally the No Labels, "America is a center-right country" hacks would finally wake up. Instead they completely ignored it.

F**k the Democratic Party forever.

America is different than Britain. Some of Corbyn's policies I agree with but I don't like far-left Marxism nor right-wing fascism.

Maybe we should've just said "Fck it" and ran a Berniecrat.
In the suburbs?  LOL.

The cuckgressive lost despite running what was by all accounts a great campaign.

He lost because he's to the left of the district.

Hardly.

Besides, Corbyn's fortune had more to do with May's poor choice in calling a snap election and being a not so strong leader. And Corbyn still came up very short of a majority in Parliament.

Ossoff ran the tried and true New Democrat "Identity Politics" campaign.  Instead of talking about real issues, he just focused on checking off the minority boxes and getting his womyn buzzwords into cute soundbites.  It's the reason Hillary lost and it's the reason Democrats will continue to lose.

I think it needs to be something that says "Centrism involves working together on common issues and seeking to reconcile differences.  Such a movement will allow for a more functional and positive America."

BINGO.  The US is, culturally speaking, much further to the right than the UK or any other European country for that matter (with the exception of perhaps Switzerland).

They also won't have national attention and the same amount of money poured into them. Also GA-06 is about 13% AA. CA-48 for example is only 1%. Hispanics and Asians are far more elastic and they make up the bulk of minority voters in these areas.

A campaign on Far left politics and socialism can't be run in the US because of welfare chauvinism plus black people exist in this country.

It really doesn't. Most people should understand that the British and American electorates are vastly different. There's way less racial chauvinism in the UK, and the people there don't care as much about guns, God, and abortion the way people do here.

Sigh, the past ten pages of drivel from avatars from all political colors, once again demonstrate why the International Election Thread, is considered the best on Atlas.

If people want to debate and discuss everything from the autopsy of particular individual elections, which is somewhat on-topic, to replacement of various Party Leaders, gloating about electoral outcomes, relitigation of the 2016 Democratic Primaries, etc, to all sorts of other crap, maybe time to see how our fellow Atlasians cover European Elections for a bit of compare and contrast.....

This. You can't be too extreme. You can't be too xenophobic and too open borders. There is waste in every part of the budget including the military. Not everyone who serves in the U.S. military is a fascist or a killer. Not every cop is a "pig". Not every immigrant is a "freeloader".

You need some type of centrism. Extremes don't work all the time.
