The people who swung heavily to the Dems in 2006/2008 Congressional races are no longer willing to, because muh culture war. Country is too polarized.

Anyone recall the Quist-Gianforte thread when a dozen or so users assured us that running a Clintonite centrist instead of a populist was this magic elixir that could win over GA-06 a la John Bel Edwards? If Democrats continue to pursue the same trodden path they did in 2016, there's no shot in hell they manifest some "blue tide" in two years.
So if the populist in MT lost and the Clintonite in GA lost, then which Democrat wins?
They need a fundamental shift to energize independents.
Either retire the leadership and the centrist "ACA and the Economy are Great As-Is!" messaging or wait for GOP meltdown.

Pretty much every single prediction I've made this year has been wrong (and has been since Brexit), including Ossoff winning.

Anyone who thought Ossoff could win this was kidding themselves. There was a small chance, but ACHA wasn't brought up enough. His only real shot was winning outright in the jungle, and it didn't happen.

Can we stop this stupid "Pelosi" meme? Even veteran GOP strategists have said that the Pelosi attack angle has produced ZERO proof of improving GOP vote-share in elections like these. There's virtually nobody who's going to bother voting in a mid-term or special election who both a) doesn't know who Pelosi is and b) suddenly hear about her and go "oh, now I have to vote". Think logically.

I think losing elections over and over again is all the proof you need. Why Democrats didn't turn Handel into "the woman who supports killing cancer patients" is lost on me

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Correlation =/= causation, especially with such a loose one. "Oh somebody's in an insignificant office that 99.8% of the country has never voted for/against so that's why were losing". Maybe - just maybe - we're losing because of other, substantive reasons?

We lost GA-6 because it's filled with Southern suburbanites who decided to vote how they've always voted.

I knew something like this was coming. Republicans gerrymander. Everyone does. Not one gives a s*** about fairness when you can give your party control of the country.

The Democrat party gerrymandered us from the 1960s thru 1994 and they are squealing when we retaliate.

There was an article from the 1980 how the Dems gerrymandering saved them from losing the house
Do you have it? I'd like to see it

Special elections don't always reflect what will happen in the midterm and there are plenty of Republicans in Clinton districts that will probably lose next year. GA-6 is a Republican gerrymander, anyway and it functioned just as it was intended to tonight. It could flip next year, though.

This isnt a good post or reaction we gained a ton in margins in both seats vs congressional 2016 results, not naitonalizing seats and running actual local candidates would probably help in seats like GA-06

I'm tired of losing by only a few points. SOMETHING'S gotta change. Whether that be the messaging, the leadership, or the candidates.

Why not? He came close in a traditionally Republican district and rematches do often result in reversal. It probably will be open next year anyway, because Handel will probably run for Governor being that she is constantly chasing power.
