Did Kerry win any dry counties?
«
on:
August 11, 2005, 10:42:14 am »
Did Kerry (or Al Gore, for that matter) win any counties where the sale of alcohol is illegal?
Pike, KY is dry in some parts, but I do know the town of Pikeville is not dry, so I guess Pike doesn't count.
Carter, KY might be dry.

If somebody has a list of counties in which the sale of alcohol is illegal, that would be helpful in completing this exercise.

Every Texas dry county voted for Bush both times. Some of them voted Clinton in 1996, but they might not have been dry then.

Kerry won some dry MA towns, some by landslides.

There are still dry counties? I don't think Washington has any! You can even by alcohol on Sundays here now.

Pennsylvania has some "dry" towns. For Max Power, New Florence is one of them.

Damn that would suck. But anyone who has ever been to a real dry county knows that they aren't exactly practicing what they preach.

43 of Arkansas' 75 counties are dry. Of them, Kerry won Bradley, Clark, Clay, Hempstead, Lawrence, Lincoln, Little River, and Randolph.

Dry areas tend to be sparsely populated.
NY has 11 completely dry townships, total population 19,979

They actually had it on the ballot in 1985, to permit liquior licenses to be issued, and it was defeated.
Seward, in 1985, for miles down the road, had five (or about one per 150 people). Ferndale, where I lived after that, was dry.
Just for the record, I'd expect Bush to have won both dry towns mentioned.

Ferndale was pretty close in '00 (49-46 Bush), assuming it's the one in Cambria County.

Any Christian that preaches against drinking needs to have his head examine. Obviously, I wouldn't win any dry counties either.

I don't think there are any dry municipalities whatsoever in Wisconsin. It would be, like, blasphemous here.
However, you can't buy liquor anywhere other than a bar after 9PM. That's not because people are virtuous. It's because the tavern league is extremely powerful.

Gay Head/Aquinnah is also the most Democratic town in Massachusetts, and one of the most Democratic in the country - Kerry received 91% of the vote.

That's pathetic. The supposedly most liberal state in the union and John Kerry's homestate and that's all? Boston was worse...Kerry didn't even get 80% there. People not to stop acting like Boston is sooo liberal.

They might want to take the time to see what Paul of Tarsus had to say to St. Timothy in one of his many letters.
Or they might review the fact that Jesus himself drank and mocked the religious wackos who had a problem with his drinking.
Mat 11:18-20 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' 19The Son of Man came eating and
drinking
, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a
drunkard
, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners." ' But wisdom is proved right by her actions."

You can't win for losing when it comes to the ultra-religious, like the 1st century Jewish priests... or certain 21st century religious leaders.
Jesus today would be rejected by many for being a friend of Communists and Lesbians.
