This is a conservative Southern seat in Georgia, a R+15 seat. Can Democrats make a challenge to Rep. Austin Scott, a red-state conservative? They tried to in KS-04.

They should contest every seat where they have a candidate, but KS-04 was an open seat. Defeating an incumbent Scott is on the far fringes of possibility.

Trump won this district 63.3% - 34.4%, and Austin won it by a massive margin. Plus, afaik, he is running again in 2018, so that adds an incumbency advantage - something Republicans in KS-4, MT-AL and GA-6 didn't/don't have.

If a Democrat somehow won this district, which is extremely unlikely, it would be one of those shocking upsets that there is really no good way to predict far ahead of time. I think if Republicans are to lose another usually-safe Georgia seat, it's probably going to be GA-7.

If a viable Democrat interested in running against Austin Scott can raise serious amounts of money, then more power to him or her. He or she is on her own though.

He's probably retired from Georgia politics. He's not too old to return.

No. I suspect this district may be diluted a bit to dissolve GA-02 in redistricting.
